University of Toronto Varsity Blues swimmer Kylie Masse (LaSalle, Ont.) has been named Investors Group OUA Female Athlete of the Week after she captured six gold medals and set four meet records this past weekend at the OUA Swimming Championships.
Thanks in large part to the performance of Masse, the Varsity Blues women's swimming team claimed their fourth consecutive OUA championship title.
Now in her third-year studying kinesiology at the University of Toronto, Masse swept the 50-m (26.62), 100-m (1:50.92) and 200-m (2:03.71) backstroke events, as well won gold in the 200 individual medley (2:09.94) event in a new OUA record time. Masse also broke her own OUA records in the 50-m and 200-m backstroke events.
The LaSalle, Ont. native, who represented Canada at the Rio Olympics last summer, also anchored Toronto's gold medal winning 400-m freestyle relay (3:45.60) and 200-m medley (1:50.92) relay teams.
Following the championship, Masse was named the OUA Female Swimmer of the Year for the third consecutive season, while also earning the Dr. Jeno Tihanyi Award for IM Excellence for the second time in her career.
Masse will now turn her focus to the 2017 U SPORTS championships in Sherbrooke, Que. from February 24-26.
