Burlington, Ont. – Erin Locke and Gianfranco Sartor have been named IG Wealth Management Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week, powered by Planters, for the period ending December 2, 2018.

Female Athlete of the Week – Erin Locke (Toronto, Ont.) – 4th Year – York Lions

York hockey player Erin Locke led the Lions to victory on Friday night with two goals against the Western Mustangs, including the game-winner in a 3-2 overtime win.

The win was a big one for the Lions as they upset the No. 7 ranked Mustangs in their last game before the winter break. Locke, who missed the first ten games of the season with an injury, returned last weekend and also scored the overtime winner in a 1-0 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs. Locke has now scored three goals in her two games played this year including two big overtime goals for the team as they head into the break on a three-game winning streak.

Locke has led the Lions in scoring the past two seasons, racking up 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in the 2016-17 and a career-high 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) last season.

Male Athlete of the Week – Gianfranco Sartor (Calgary, Alta.) – 1st Year – Western Mustangs

What a way for the Western Mustangs to close out the fall semester on the volleyball court, as their men’s team, anchored by outside hitter Gianfranco Sartor, slipped past the McMaster Marauders by a 3-2 margin.

The first-year player put up one of his strongest performances of the season against the No. 6 squad, pouring in a total of 21 points against the nationally-ranked powerhouse. At the net, Sartor was a threat all night, connecting on 17 kills throughout the match with a hitting percentage of .275. He also notched six digs and a service ace for the purple ponies, all of which were key contributors to the team’s eventual five-set, come-from-behind win.

On the season, the Calgary native is now averaging nearly three kills per set to go along with a .219 hitting percentage for the Mustangs, who enter the holiday break with a 6-3 record.
