McMaster claim No.1 position in U Sports women’s basketball Top 10 rankings

TORONTO (U Sports) – After more than a year, the McMaster Marauders are back on top of the U Sports women’s basketball Top 10, while the Trinity Western Spartans have vaulted to the No.1 ranking in men’s volleyball for the first time in over four seasons.

The Marauders, who began last year as the best team in the country, take over the top position from No. 4 Carleton, after an 86-51 win over Brock last Wednesday. The Ravens - who led both the men’s and women’s basketball rankings for the first time in program history - were upset 68-57 by Algoma on Friday in their season opener. McMaster hosts Guelph Wednesday night before heading to Brock on Saturday.

In men’s volleyball, the Spartans jumped to the lead spot for the first time since Oct. 16, 2012, following a pair of 3-0 sweeps at MacEwan. Trinity Western will play a home-and-home series with UBC this weekend.

In other U Sports rankings, Carleton (men’s basketball), Brock (men’s and women’s wrestling), Alberta (women’s volleyball), UNB (men’s hockey), and UBC (men’s and women’s swimming and women’s hockey), all maintain their pole positions for another week.
