The McMaster University Marauders are excited to announce that former Defensive Coordinator Greg Knox has been selected to become the Interim Head Coach of Marauder Football for the 2016 season. The appointment marks Coach Knox's first head coaching opportunity at the CIS level, after previously serving eight years on the Marauder staff.
Director of Athletics and Recreation Glen Grunwald says he believes Coach Knox is uniquely qualified to maintain the winning culture of Marauder Football after the departure of Stefan Ptaszek, who left McMaster to join the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats. "Greg is ready for this challenge and is well-equipped to keep the program competitive as we move toward the 2016 season," Grunwald explained. "In a sport like football, so much of a team's success depends on stability and consistency and I see Coach Knox as being able to provide those elements. His familiarity with our players, coaching staff, and playing systems will be great assets."
Knox will step into the Head Coach role after spending the 2015 season as the defensive backs coach with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.
"I'm excited to be back at McMaster and looking forward to continuing the success of the program, "said Knox, who helped the Marauder football team win three Yates Cup titles and the 2011 Vanier Cup Championship.
A former Vanier Cup champion as a player with Wilfrid Laurier University in 1991, Knox went on to an eight-year CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders, where he was a member of two Grey Cup championship teams.
All media are invited to an introductory Media Conference on Tuesday, May 17 at 12 p.m. in the Fitzhenry Studio on the second floor of the David Braley Athletic Centre, at which time Greg Knox and Athletic Director Glen Grunwald will be available for interviews.
McMaster training camp will open on August 14, with the 2016 OUA Football season set to kick-off on Sunday, August 28th as the Carleton Ravens will make the trip to Hamilton to face the Marauders in the home opener.
