CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY: McMaster tops the final men's volleyball ranking of the season

CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY: McMaster tops the final men's volleyball ranking of the season

OTTAWA (CIS) – There is only one change at the top in this week’s CIS national rankings, with the University of Calgary Dinos moving up to No. 1 in women’s track and field.

In other CIS sports, Windsor (women’s basketball), Carleton (men’s basketball), McGill (women’s hockey), Alberta (men’s hockey), UBC (women’s swimming & women’s volleyball), Toronto (men’s swimming), York (men’s track & field), McMaster (men’s volleyball) and Brock (women’s & men’s wrestling) all hold on to the pole position.

In women’s track and field, the reigning CIS champion Dinos were one of three Canada West programs to move past former No. 1 Guelph, which drops to fourth in the new rankings. Ten days away from the Canada West championships in Edmonton (Feb. 21-22), Trinity Western and Saskatchewan now sit in second and third place nationally, behind Calgary.

For their part, McGill and UBC remain atop the national rankings in women’s hockey and women’s volleyball, respectively, despite difficult outings this past weekend.

McGill (18-1) was dominated 5-1 by third-ranked and defending CIS champion Montreal (15-3) on Friday night. The result snapped the Martlets’ 43-game winning streak in league play, dating back to a 4-3 shootout loss to Carleton on Oct. 29, 2011.

UBC (18-4) was swept 3-2 and 3-1 by No. 6 Alberta (13-9), marking the first time the six-time reigning CIS champ Thunderbirds lost both ends of a regular season doubleheader since Oct. 29-30, 2010 against Trinity Western.
