CONCORDIA MOUNTS COMEBACK IN OUA SEASON OPENER

The Concordia Stingers scored three straight goals to earn a 3-3 tie with the UQTR Patriotes as the men’s hockey season kicked off Friday. UQTR built a 3-0 lead midway through the second period but Concordia stormed back on goals from Philippe Lacasse and Bruno Champagne to head in to the second intermission down just one. Jonathan Gauthier scored his first of the season on the power play at 10:04 of the third to help Concordia earn a point. Thiery Poudrier and Jonathan Boutin had a goal and an assist each for the Patriotes.

Concordia faced off against the Ottawa gee-Gees Sunday, losing 2-1. This time, Concordia had an early lead on a first-period goal from Simon Pierre Sauve but Ottawa’s Jeff Pont got the equalizer at 13:55 of the second on the power play and Martin Herard scored the winner at 2:26 of the third period. Martin Bricault made 26 saves for Ottawa.

The Brock Badgers started their season on a high note at home, defeating the York Lions 6-3. Forward Curtis Yausie scored twice for the Badgers, while John J. Martin and Josh Bonar each added a goal and an assist. Matthew Harpwood made 24 saves in the Brock net to get the win. James Carney led the Lions with a goal and an assist, while Jon Hedberg and Jerry Connell also scored.
