Brian brings an extensive background in coaching to the Warriors. For the past two years he has been an assistant with the Warriors under Karl Taylor. Brian’s responsibilities included defensive coach, video analysis and game breakdown, game strategies, practice implementation, recruiting, and alumni development.
Previous to Waterloo, he has been a coach with the Newmarket Junior ‘A’ club as an assistant to Head Coach, Brad Selwood. Prior to Junior ‘A’, Brian was an assistant coach with the York Yeomen and Ryerson Rams in the OUA and coached for five years in Dartmouth, NS in the Midget AAA league. Brian received his Masters of Kinesiology in coaching from York University in 2001 and a Bachelor of Education from Dalhousie University in 1995. He has been a high school teacher for the past ten years.
“I am excited to be able to introduce Brian as our Head Coach of the Warriors,” commented Athletic Director, Judy McCrae. “Brian has been very much a part of the success of the Warrior Hockey program the past two seasons under Karl Taylor. Brian is well qualified, very energetic and dedicated. His appointment will ensure the players can expect the same approaches and learning environment that we have had in the immediate past.”
Brian currently lives in Waterloo with his wife Lisa and three children, Kennedy, Maddy, and Emma. Brian is excited about this new coaching opportunity. “We have worked very hard over the past two seasons to build a team that includes not only quality players, but equally important quality individuals. I am looking forward to this new challenge,” said Coach Bourque.
