WATERLOO, Ont. - The Waterloo Warriors men's hockey team improved their record to 5-3-0-1 with a 3-2 win over the No. 10-ranked Brock Badgers Tuesday night in St. Catharines.

Waterloo's Kurt Thorner (St. Thomas, Ont.) scored the winner midway through the third period to lift the Warriors to a win in their first non-divisional game of the season.

Waterloo's Steve Whitely (Petrolia, Ont.) opened the scoring on the power play at 19:32 for all the scoring in the period. Brock outshot Waterloo 15-5 but was unable to beat Warrior netminder Aaron Barton (Carlisle, Ont.).

In the second, the Badgers would finally solve Barton on a power play goal from Gary Friesen (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.) at 7:18. Brock would then take the lead on a goal by Tyler Leggo (Burgessville, Ont.) at 16:37 assisted by Friesen. Waterloo would tie the game up at 2-2 on Sean Roche's (Ottawa, Ont.) third goal of the season at 18:31 heading into the second intermission all square.

In the final frame, Thorner would notch the winner at 11:48 for all the scoring. The Warriors were able to fend off a late charge by the Badgers, but once again, Barton was solid in the nets for Waterloo.

Aaron Barton made 27 saves for the win for the Warriors.
