Gibson's Gaels eliminate Concordia with 2-0 win, advance to OUA East Final

MONTREAL (February 26, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels eliminated the No.7 Concordia Stingers with a 2-0 win on Sunday night in the third and deciding game of their best-of-three OUA East quarter-final series. With the victory the Gaels advance to the OUA East final where they will take on rival McGill.

The two teams started off at a quick pace in the opening period which saw a total of 26 shots between the two sides. The game two hero Anthony De Luca served the games first penalty as the Stingers were called for too many men on the ice. Concordia netminder Philippe Cadorette held his ground for the Stingers coming off a game two shutout of the Queen's offence.
Nearing the mid-way point of the period Brock Edwards (Kingston, Ont.) broke up ice into the Concordia zone. His shot from the hash marks was stopped by the pad of Cadorette, but Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.) was in the right spot on the door-step to pot his second goal of the playoffs giving Queen's a 1-0 lead.

Neither team was able to strike in the second, with Concordia outshooting Queen's 10-9 in the frame. A late penalty to the Gaels gave the Stingers a powerplay chance for the first 1:38 of the third period.

Gaels netminder Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) continued to shine for the Gaels in the third period. Bailie had allowed just two goals in the series through two games. Bailie was busy in the final period as he saw a total of 17 shots fired at him. With the Concordia net, empty Dylan Anderson (Greely, Ont.) got control of the puck in the Stingers zone and potted an empty net goal to make it 2-0.

The Gaels held their ground from there to skate away with a 2-0 win and a 2-1 series victory.

Bailie finished with his second shutout of the playoffs stopping all 42 shots he faced in the game and has posted a 0.99 GAA and 0.971 SV% through the playoffs so far.
