Gryphons beat Hawks, remain perfect on home ice

GUELPH, ON - Wednesday night at the Gryphon Centre, the University of Guelph women's hockey team scored a season-high six goals in a 6-0 win over the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks. With the result, the No. 4-ranked Gryphons remain undefeated on home ice this season (6-0) and improve to 10-2-1 on the year, while Laurier falls to 1-8-1.

Gryphons rookie goalie Aurore Beaulieu (Calgary, AB) made just her second start of the season, and her first start on home ice with her only previous appearance on the season coming in a 4-2 road win over the Ryerson Rams back on October 29. The first year netminder made 26 saves on the night for her first career OUA shutout and made several big saves in the 2nd period to preserve a then one-goal lead for the Gryphs.

Third year winger Kaitlin Lowy continued her red hot play, scoring a pair of goals on Wednesday night, her team-leading 9th and 10th goals of the season. Lowy has now recorded multi-point performances in 5 of her last 7 games.
After rookie forward Sydney Davison extended the lead to 3-0 with her 7th goal of the season, second year defenceman Mallory Young would score from a tight angle on the power play to make it 4-0. It was Young's first goal of the season and second of her Gryphon career. Brittany St. James and Ashlee Lawrence would round out the scoring for the Gryphons on the night as they scored a season-high six goals on the night.

The Gryphons now have one game remaining before the exam/Christmas break and will be in action on Saturday when they travel to Windsor for a matchup with the Lancers (5-5-2). Puck drop in Windsor is set for 4pm.
