Buettner, Reinhart, Green named Football Players of the Week

Burlington, Ont. – Sawyer Buettner, Job Reinhart, and Clark Green have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 30, 2018.

Offence: Sawyer Buettner, Ottawa Gee-Gees

It was a Panda Game to remember for Gee-Gees quarterback Sawyer Buettner, as he led his team to victory in what was once again the biggest OUA regular season game of the year.

It’s never easy to step on to the TD Place stage in front of a sold out crowd, but Buettner handled it like a pro. Playing in his first ever Panda Game, Buettner threw for five touchdowns against the No. 5 Carleton Ravens, which led to 31 unanswered points throughout the game to seal the win for the Gee-Gees; staking claim to Pedro the Panda for the first time in five years..

His first connection came on a 3-yard pass to Carter Matheson, before finding Kalem Beaver for back-to-back majors. A pass to the back of the endzone found a diving Dylan St. Pierre, before Buettner found Matheson for a 25-yard score to round out his day.

Defence: Job Reinhart, Guelph Gryphons

On Saturday at University Stadium in Waterloo, the Guelph Gryphons put together one of the top defensive performances of the season, with fourth-year linebacker Job Reinhart right in the middle of it.

The Guelph, Ont. native helped lead a dominant effort by the Gryphons in a 27-24 road win over the No. 8-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks. Reinhart was all over the field, racking up 10 tackles on the day while also recording his second defensive score of the season with a 72-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the opening quarter.

Reinhart's pick-six was one of six interceptions on the day by the Gryphon defence. It also marks the second time this season that Reinhart has taken one back all the way following his 26-yard pick-six back on Labour Day against York.

Special Teams: Clark Green, Windsor Lancers

Senior kicker Clark Green had a record-breaking day for the Blue & Gold as they celebrated 50 years of Lancer Football.

The Chatham, Ont. native set a new team record in field goals made with six. After trailing by three touchdowns late in the second quarter, the Lancers turned to the trust foot of Green to start chipping away. He ended the half with a trio of makes (33, 25, and 26). He picked up right where he left off coming into the third quarter with another 19-yard connection for his fourth of the day.

Heading into the fourth quarter, and with the Lancers down by just two, Green lined up a 41-yard boot to give his team their first lead of the day. A back-and-forth finish put him back in the spotlight late in the game, and he saved his best for last, putting Windsor up for good on a 45-yard field goal with just 26 seconds to play.

Overall, Green finished the game with 20 points, 336 punting yards, and 241 kickoff yards.
