WILSON CUP BY THE NUMBERS
2 & 8 – The final CIS rankings of Carleton and Windsor men’s basketball teams based on a coaches poll. Both teams have qualified to play in the CIS Championships which will take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, March 16-18.
3 & 13 – The number of times in which Carleton and Windsor have won the Wilson Cup. The Raven’s last OUA Championship was in 2004-05 while the Lancers haven’t taken home the trophy since the 1978-79 season.
17.1 & 16.8 – The average points per game scored by Carleton Ravens leading scorer Osvaldo Jeanty (Gloucester, Ontario), and Windsor Lancers top point getter, Kevin Kloostra (Chatham, Onatario). Jeanty also tallied 79 rebounds, 65 assists and 13 steals on the season, while Kloostra tallied an impressive 89.3 percent free throw success rate, as well as collecting 104 rebounds, and 19 steals.
1908- The inaugural year the Wilson Cup Trophy was presented to the OUA Men’s Basketball Champions by Harold Wilson of Toronto.
3 & 4 – The number of times each school has won the Wilson Cup and gone on to win the CIS Championship in the same season. Carleton accomplished the feat three years in a row during the 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. Windsor won four times in one decade, earning both championships in the 1963-64, 1965-66, 1966-67 and 1968-69 seasons. (Carleton did qualify for the 2005-06 CIS Championships, winning their fourth straight.)
4 & 1 – Dave Smart has been a four time recipient of the OUA East Coach of the Year for his work with the Carleton Ravens. Chris Oliver, in just his second season as Head Coach at Windsor, earned his first OUA West Coach of the Year Award in 2007.
1980- The inaugural year the Kitch MacPherson Trophy, donated by Labatt’s Ontario Breweries, was presented to the most outstanding player in the Wilson Cup Final. The trophy was named for a retired supervisor of officials in the OUA West division. (Note: From 1968-1979, the most outstanding player in the playoffs received the E.C. LeBel Plaque).
19-3 & 16–6 – The regular season records of the Carleton Ravens and Windsor Lancers respectively. Each team finished the regular season first in their division. During regular season play Carleton defeated Windsor 73–71 in the opening game of the season for both teams.
1 & 27 – The number of years since the Carleton Ravens and the Windsor Lancers have taken home the Wilson Cup trophy. In 2005-2006 season the Ravens were upset in the East Division Final by the York Lions, while the Windsor Lancers have not seen the banner since the 1978-1979 season.
