Carleton Ravens women's basketball forward Ines Jelic (London, Ont.) lines up her free throw shot at the Women's Basketball All-Star game held on Saturday, May 9th at RIM Park. Jelic was perfect from the line and and contributed nine points for the East All-Star team. The East All-Stars defeated the West 77-64 in front of a capacity crowd.
TORONTO - The Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) has announced that York Lions women's volleyball players Thinesa Sriskandarajah and Kristina Vlcek were named to Team Ontario for the upcoming Canada Summer Games, which will take place in Prince Edward Island from Aug. 15-29.
DAVID CANAVAN, LAURIER, BASEBALL
The second-year pitcher threw the first no-hitter in Golden HawkS baseball history as Laurier defeated Guelph 7-0 during a doubleheader on Oct. 4. The Whitby, Ont. native went all seven innings striking out six and giving up only four walks as well as hitting one batter in what was a dominating performance. The team finished the regular season with a 7-11 record.
KRISTINE WISHART, GUELPH, FIELD HOCKEY
The fourth-year year math student from Hamilton, Ont. netted five goals and added two assists to lead Guelph to three decisive wins over the Oct. 4-5 weekend. Wishart was lethal on attack as she has a great ability to find the open holes but also steal the ball off the opposition. Against Queen's, she exploded for two markers and set up two and then recorded a hat trick against McGill to give her a total of 13 goals on the season for top spot in CIS scoring.
LEESA CHURCH, NIPISSING, W-SOCCER
Church (North Bay, Ont.) was named Nipissing co-female athlete of the year. Church made an immediate impact in her first season with the Lakers as she tallied 15 goals in 14 games, ranking second in OUA and second in Canadian Interuniversity Sport scoring. The striker led her team to its first winning season in program history (7-6-1) and was named a first-team all star.
SCOTT CLIFF, LAURENTIAN, M-SOCCER
Cliff (Sudbury, Ont.) was named Laurentian's male athlete of the year for his outstanding play in guiding the Voyageurs into the second round of the playoffs. Cliff allowed just 11 goals in 14 games, including seven shutouts enroute to being named the OUA East most valuable player.
JENNIFER HOLT, MCMASTER, W-VOLLEYBALL
Holt (Hamilton, Ont.) was named McMaster co-female athlete of the year. She was named a Canadian Interuniversity Sport first-team all-Canadian. She becomes McMaster's first women's volleyball player to be named to the CIS first team. She is a three-time OUA first-team all-star.
JOSH SACOBIE, OTTAWA, FOOTBALL
Sacobie (Fredericton, N.B.), who passed for 2,171 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, finished his career with a Gee-Gees record 9,885 passing yards and 79 career touchdown passes. His career touchdowns are the second highest total in Canada and Sacobie is third all-time in career yardage. He was named Ottawa's male athlete of the year.
