FORMER NHLER ROB PEARSON JOINS UOIT HOCKEY STAFF
The Oshawa native, who was drafted in the first round, 12th overall, by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft and played in the NHL with the Leafs, Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues from 1991 to 1997, will take on the role of assistant coach with the UOIT men's hockey program. Pearson also played seven seasons in the AHL and IHL with Portland, Worcester, Cleveland, Long Beach and Orlando. he former first-rounder retired from playing hockey in 2002 after a season in Germany with the Frankfurt Lions.
\"We are excited to have added an individual with Rob's high-calibre hockey background and experience to our varsity program,\" stated Athletic Director Ken Babcock. \"Rob will be a very positive influence on the student-athletes, has alot to offer knowledge wise and will definitely assist in attracting top flight players to our program.\"
The former OHL all-star, helped lead the Oshawa Generals in their quest to repeat as Memorial Cup Champions in 1991-92, playing along side Eric Lindros.
\"UOIT head coach, Marlin Muylaert is extremely pleased to have added Rob to his coaching staff and views this as a very positive situation for the OUA's newest men's hockey program\", Babcock noted.
Pearson will now begin to assist Coach Muylaert in recruiting the future student-athletes of the UOIT Ridgebacks hockey program. he team starts play in the OUA in October of 2007 when the rest of the OUA will venture into the Campus Ice Centre and the heart of Ridgeback country.
