OAKVILLE, Ont. – For just the 10th time in University of Guelph history, a Guelph Gryphon student-athlete has been named 'OUA Athlete of the Year.' Olivia Rizakos, a standout forward on the Gryphons women's soccer team, has been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Athlete of the Year for the 2025-26 season, with TMU Bold basketball player Aaron Rhooms taking home Athlete of the Year honours on the men's side. The conference-wide award was announced on Wednesday evening (May 13, 2026) at the OUA's year-end 'Honour Awards' banquet in Oakville. Rizakos was not the only University of Guelph representation on the night, as the OUA and national championship-winning Guelph Gryphons men's rugby team took home 'OUA Team of the Year' honours.

WATERLOO, Ont. – The best 107 Canadian university football players from across the country, who are eligible for the 2027 CFL Draft, gathered at the University of Waterloo for this year's edition of the U SPORTS East-West Bowl. The annual all-star game, which saw five University of Guelph student-athletes suiting up on Team West, took place on Saturday, May 9 at the University of Waterloo's Warrior Field. Team West, led by Gryphon quarterback Tristan Aboud, won 28-27 over Team East in the 23rd edition of the showcase event, which began back in 2003.

GUELPH, Ont. – On Tuesday night (April 28, 2026), a total of three student-athletes from the University of Guelph football program were selected in the 2026 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft. Gryphon running back, Isaiah Smith was the first U of G selection, with the 2022 OUA Rookie of the Year heading to the Toronto Argonauts in Round 2, 11th overall. Defensive back Devynn Cromwell, who played two seasons with the Gryphons (2022 & 2023) before transferring to the NCAA to suit up with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Michigan State Spartans, was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 3rd round. While rounding out the U of G selections was Gryphon offensive lineman Mitchel Schechinger who was taken by the Calgary Stampeders in Round 6. Four athletes, four teams and two builders make up the 2026 Hall of Fame Class, who will be enshrined in the Gryphon Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
