PIONEER PETROLEUMS ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
HAMILTON, Ont. – The following student-athletes have been named Pioneer Petroleums Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for the period ending March 20, 2011.
Each Pioneer Petroleums OUA Athlete of the Week will receive a $25 gift card and a dri-fit T-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Petroleums.
MALE:Andrew Tai-Pow, Waterloo Warriors, Badminton
Andrew Tai-Pow (Toronto) was once again a force for the Warriors badminton team capturing both the men’s and mixed doubles titles at this year’s OUA Championship. Tai-Pow won the mixed doubles in straight sets (22-20, 22-20) with partner Surabhi Kadam and the men’s doubles alongside partner Nathan Lee in a tight three-set match (21-13, 18-21, 21-14) over Western. The fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student won all 11 matches played in and dropped only one set the entire tournament. He was named an OUA all-star for the fourth straight year for his efforts and helped Waterloo capture the overall silver medal.
FEMALE: Miah-Marie Langlois, Windsor Lancers, Basketball
Miah Marie Langlois (Windsor, Ont.) was named CIS women’s basketball championship tournament MVP after a 36-point, 14-assist weekend en route to Windsor’s first-ever Bronze Baby. The tournament all-star recorded 13 points, six assists and eight rebounds in the Lancers 80-50 quarter-final win over the Laval Rouge et Or on Friday. In Saturday’s semifinal versus Cape Breton, Langlois earned Player of the Game honours after recording 13 points and five assists in the 56-47 win to advance Windsor to their second-straight CIS Championship game. In the final, the second-year point guard had 10 points and three assists against Saskatchewan to help her Lancers win in convincing fashion, 63-49, to take the national banner.
