LAURENTIAN CURLING RECRUIT CLAIMS HONOURS IN SUDBURY
Lilly, the Lockerby Composite School graduate was also named the school's senior athlete of the year, along with claiming the Colin Hood OFSAA award and Sudbury Star athlete of the year.
On top of curling - Lilly is a member of the reigning Northern Ontario junior girls champion team coached by Laurentian's head coach Jan Pula - she is also accomplished in basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field (high jump), tennis and badminton. Lilly left her mark on the city in each of the events, while competed at NOSSA and OFSAA for many of them.
"I chose Laurentian because I was really interested in the program (sports administration) and I wanted to curl at the varsity level," said Lilly. "A huge motivating factor was that Jan Pula was coaching the team. Other members of our junior team are also competing for Laurentian."
Lilly chose to stick with curling despite her accomplishments in other sports at high school. "I love curling because I enjoy the mental and technical aspects of the game. I like that you have to think three or four steps ahead of the competition. I also enjoy the finesse of the game."
The Laurentian Lady Vees curling team will look to carry the momentum they gained from their inaugural season as a varsity program. The Lady Vees were CIS bronze medalists in Montreal last year. It was the second year in a row they came up short in the semi-finals. With the experience under them, as none of the team has graduated and the addition of Lilly, the team will have high expectations as they enter the 2009-10 season.
