Mustangs sweep OUA football players of the week
OFFENCE: Matt Uren, Western Mustangs, Receiver
Mustangs receiver Matt Uren was awarded the Dalt White Trophy as Yates Cup MVP in Saturday’s win over Queen’s in the 106th Yates Cup championship. Despite suffering an injury on the opening kick-off, the London, Ont., native bounced back to catch two touchdowns—including a phenomenal stretching grab in the third quarter—and record 128 receiving yards in the victory.
DEFENCE: Preston Huggins, Western Mustangs, Linebacker
London native Preston Huggins led the Mustangs in tackles on Saturday as he counted eight in the 51-22 win over Queen’s in the 106th Yates Cup. He also added a key interception at the Queen's 50-yard line midway through the second quarter to halt the Gaels offence.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Lirim Hajrullahu, Western Mustangs, Kicker
Mustangs kicker Lirim Hajrullahu (St. Catharines, Ont.) had yet another strong outing on Saturday in the 106th Yates Cup, kicking four field goals including two from beyond the 40-yard line hitting kicks from both 41- and 49-yards. The CIS’ all-time scoring leader also added five extra points and four singles for 21 total points on the day.
