Golden Hawks' Ackie and Mustangs' Waud named honorary captains for 109th Yates Cup

BURLINGTON, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is excited to announce that former Laurier Golden Hawk defensive back Chris Ackie and Western Mustangs defensive lineman Daryl Waud will act as honorary captains for the 109th Yates Cup, presented by lululemon, this Saturday.

Over the course of four seasons for the Golden Hawks, Ackie recorded 128 tackles in 32 games, including a career high 42 in his final season in 2014. 

After being named Rookie of the Year of the football team in 2011, Ackie was named an OUA second-team all-star in 2013 and finished his Laurier career as an OUA first-team all-star and a CIS all-Canadian in 2014.

Following his Golden Hawks career, Ackie was drafted fourth overall by the Montreal Alouettes in the 2015 CFL Draft.  In 33 games with the Alouettes, Ackie has recorded 19 special teams tackles to go along with 11 defensive tackles and a sack and forced fumble.

Over his four year career, Waud racked up 81 total tackles, including 55 solo stops, along with seven sacks and two interceptions in 29 regular season contests. He was also dominant in the post season, recording 22 tackles and four sacks in nine games, while helping the Mustangs win the Yates Cup in 2013.

A three-time OUA first-team all-star (2011, 2013-2014), Waud was also named a CIS first-team all-Canadian in 2012 and 2014 and was selected as a CIS Academic all-Canadian in 2014.

Waud, who was a member of the same draft class as Ackie, was selected 12th overall by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2015 CFL Draft.  Over the course of two seasons with the Argonauts, the Hamilton, Ont. native has 19 tackles and three sacks in 24 games for the "Double Blue."   

Not only will both Ackie and Waud be involved in the pregame and halftime panels on CHCH, but they will also represent their respective teams at the coin toss.
