22 OUA football players selected in the 2025 CFL Draft
Burlington, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) was well-represented as part of the 2025 CFL Draft, with 22 conference draftees hearing their name called on Tuesday night.
Devin Veresuk, linebacker from the Windsor Lancers, was selected second overall by the Hamilton Tiger Cats, the first OUA player to be selected. The Windsor, Ont. local was named an OUA second team all-star this season for his performance with the Lancers.
The second round of the draft was busy for the OUA, meanwhile, as four decorated players were picked therein. Darien Newell from Queen’s went 10th overall to the Edmonton Elks after taking home OUA first team all-star honours this season for the Tricolour.
Two OUA major award winners from the Western Mustangs were then drafted 13th and 16th overall. J.P. Metras Award winner (Lineman of the Year) Erik Andersen was selected by the Saskatchewan Roughriders and President's Award (Outstanding Stand-Up Defensive Player) Jackson Findlay went to his hometown B.C. Lions.
Two-time OUA MVP Taylor Elgersma from the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks was selected 18th overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to wrap up the second round.
The Western Mustangs led the OUA, and the country. with six selections, followed by Windsor with four selections and Laurier, Queen’s, and Guelph with three draftees.
McMaster, Toronto, and Ottawa each had one student-athlete selected during the draft as well.
