Banner Season: OUA women's fencing day 1 recap
Peterborough, Ont. (C/O Trent Excalibur) - Day one of the 2026 OUA Women’s Fencing Championships has concluded, with individual champions crowned across all three weapons.
In women’s foil, Toronto’s Catherine Wu and Alison Wang of Queen’s met in the gold medal bout, a rematch of last year’s bronze medal contest. Wu emerged victorious, capturing the gold with a 15–12 win. Ericka Dominguez of TMU claimed bronze after defeating Western’s Robin Wang 15–6.
Western fencers continued to find success in the individual épée event, as Judy Li of Western defeated Toronto’s Valerie Qi 15–14 in the gold medal bout. Jenny Li added a second medal for Western, earning bronze with a 15–9 victory over Toronto’s Lillia Mucsi.
The day concluded with the individual women’s sabre competition. Tatiana Gayowski captured gold after a 15–13 win over Toronto’s Janna Elshakankiri. Victoria Zhang of RMC secured the bronze medal, defeating Toronto’s Astrid Chandler 15–12 to close out day one of the competition.
Day two of the championship weekend will see team events beginning at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday.
