East sweeps West at the third annual OUA Men's and Women's Soccer Showcase

On Saturday afternoon, the women kicked things off as Team East blanked the West 2-0 at the Civic Recreation Complex in Oshawa.
After a scoreless first half, Ryerson Rams defender Sarah Slattery opened the scoring to put Team East ahead 1-0.
UOIT Ridgebacks striker Cassandra Sribny would add an insurance marker later in the half, giving Team East a 2-0 lead.
Goalkeeper Sara Petrucci from the Toronto Varsity Blues turned aside every shot she faces for the shutout, preserving the victory for the East.
On Sunday, it was the men's turn to take to the pitch and showcase their skills. OUA East division MVP and University of Toronto Varsity Blues striker Kilian Elkinson opened the scoring on a penalty kick to give Team East an early 1-0 lead.
However, the West would quickly respond when Waterloo Warriors midfielder Nicholas Karavanas scored to tie the game 1-1.
Elkinson would score his second of the match minutes before the end of the half, restoring the Team East lead, 2-1.
Early in the second half, Western Mustangs midfielder Parker Seymour tied the game on a free kick before Elkinson would answer, completing the hat-trick and giving Team East a 3-2 lead once again.
Ryerson Rams' Viktor Anastasov added a goal late in the half to extend the lead and secure a 4-2 victory for the East.
The OUA Men's and Women's Soccer Showcase was run with the support of the OYSL and also provided prospective student-athletes, parents, fans and coaches with an opportunity to speak with representatives from soccer programs across Ontario at the OYSL University Fair.
