The Canadians continued their strong defence which has allowed only 21 goals thus far in the tournament and held China (1-3) to its lowest output in four games.
The drivers provided six of the Canadian goals, with four by Kyra Christmas of High River, Alta. (Pacific University) and two from Montreal's Axelle Crevier (St-Laurent College). Centre forward Haley McKelvey of Vancouver (USC) added four with University of California-Berkeley team mates Kelly McKee and Kindred Paul rounding out the scoring.
"We've played a lot against a press defence and this was the first time that we faced a three-drop and we will have to get better against that going forward," noted head coach David Paradello (Montreal, Que.)
Canada (3-0) will meet Japan tomorrow at 12 p.m. (11 p.m. ET, Monday) to determine the final preliminary standings. Japan (2-1) has victories over China and Serbia but was defeated 21-12 by Russia. Russia (2-1) also has one match remaining, against the winless Serbia.
"Japan is a quicker team on counter-attack so we will need to focus on that and we will need to start well," said Paradello. "Our communication on defence has been a strength so far. We have been very synchronized and our substitutes have blended in perfectly."
