Windsor, Ont. (via Windsor Lancers) - Day one of the 2025 OUA Track & Field Championships ended with three familiar faces atop the podiums. The Western Mustangs, the Guelph Gryphons and the Windsor Lancers placed first, second and third respectively in both the men’s and women’s competition.
On the women’s side, the Mustangs have already amassed an impressive 104 points during the opening day, followed by the Gryphons with 88.5 points. The Lancers round out the top three with 61 points.
The top of the podium is a bit tighter on the men's side, with the Mustangs again in first place with 88 points. The Gryphons follow up with 66 points of their own, and the Lancers once again nestle into the third spot with 37 points.
The Mustangs took a podium spot in all but four events to start the two-day event, which also led to them scoring double-digit points in all but four track events. Across the 16 total events completed on day 1, the Mustangs nabbed 4 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals.
The Gryphons multi athletes put on a show in the early goings of the day. Noah Dommasch set an OUA meet record in the men’s heptathlon high jump, clearing 2.02m on the hop. His counterpart, Rebecca Parker, also broke the OUA meet record for the women’s pentathlon long jump with 5.88m.
The host Lancers field athletes saw themselves take some hardware early, with A.J. Stanat kicking off the meet by grabbing gold in the men’s weight throw. Riley Robitaille nabbed bronze in the women’s pentathlon, and Grace Elford cleared 3.95m for silver in the women’s pole vault.
