Masse, Wall named OUA Athletes of the Week

FEMALE: Kylie Masse (LaSalle, Ont.) – 2nd yr. – Toronto Varsity Blues – Swimming
It was another record setting weekend in the pool for University of Toronto Varsity Blues swimming standout Kylie Masse (LaSalle, Ont.).
At the CIS Championship at Laval University, the second-year kinesiology major swept the backstroke events, all in CIS record time, including a Canadian senior long-course record in the 50-metre event on Day 1. Masse, who was named a first team all-Canadian also earned an individual silver medal in the 200 IM on Day 3.
The 5-foot-8 swimmer also helped the Varsity Blues’ 400m freestyle relay team win gold and also brought home a pair of silver medals as a member of the 200m freestyle relay and 400m medley relay teams.
Led by Masse, who was named CIS female swimmer of the year, the Varsity Blues captured their first national title since 1996-97.
MALE: Eli Wall (Ottawa, Ont.) – 3rd yr – Toronto Varsity Blues – Swimming
Led by a strong performance from University of Toronto swimmer Eli Wall (Ottawa, Ont.) the Varsity Blues hoisted the Nelson C. Hart Trophy for the third time in four seasons this past weekend.
Wall, a third-year genome biology student-athlete, left the meet with three gold and one silver medal after successfully defended both his 100m and 200m national breaststroke titles. The Ottawa, Ont. native earned his silver in the 50m breaststroke event, before winning his third and final gold as a member of Toronto’s 400m medley relay team.
Following the meet, Wall was named a CIS first team all-Canadian for the second time in his career after establishing a new CIS record (which he already owned) in the 100m breaststroke.
This is the 19th time in program history that the Varsity Blues have captured the CIS men’s swimming championship banner.
