TOP-RANKED SEEDS CLAIM TENNIS TITLES
The top-ranked teams heading into this weekend's OUA Tennis Championship proved their status by claiming the championship tournament. The Western Mustangs men's team made it three in a row as they swept the competition all weekend long. The Toronto Varsity Blues women's team captured their first tennis title since 1984 as they went the entire season undefeated.
In men's semi-final action, Western blanked Brock 6-0 in a rematch of last year's championship match. In the other semi-final McMaster got by York 5-2. The Marauders excelled in singles play as they dropped only one match to the Lions.
The host Mustangs did dropped only one match in the gold medal game as they defeated McMaster 7-0 for their third straight OUA tennis title. Marauders Conor Casey and Jay Barlow won the doubles match against Western's Alex Reidl and Peter Ta, before the Mustangs went on to capture the seven remaining fixtures.
Fighting for bronze, the Brock squad took York 5-2 to claim their second OUA medal in the history of its program. Last year, the Badgers claimed silver.
On the women's side, McGill made sure there would be a new champion crowned as they defeated three-time defending champion York Lions 4-3 in semi-final action. The top ranked Varsity Blues defeated the host Western team 5-2 in the second semi-final.
