Toronto men, Montreal women win OUA tennis championships
The Montreal Carabins and Toronto Varsity Blues emerged as the winners of the women’s and men’s titles, respectively, at the 2015 OUA Tennis Championships at Mayfair Parkway in Toronto on Sunday (Oct. 18).

The Carabins and Varsity Blues were both seeded second at the tournament and knocked off the defending champions – the host York Lions on the women's side and the Western Mustangs on the men's – In the final to capture the banners. Both Montreal and Toronto were last crowned champions in their respective draws in 2011.
The Carabins will also return home to Montreal with a medal in the men's draw after claiming bronze over the Waterloo Warriors. The women's bronze medallists were the Mustangs.
Montreal dominated the undefeated Lions throughout the afternoon, earning the doubles point first and then winning all six singles matches for the 7-0 victory. All singles matches ended in straight sets. The highlight came courtesy of Claudine Maheu, who defeated York's Ivana Banovic 6-1, 6-0 while playing out of the second spot.
Toronto had a slightly more difficult against the three-time defending champion Mustangs en route to their 5-2 win. They also claimed the doubles point to start the day and then had Zain Manji, Sasha Obucina, Nick Somody and Andrew Bourne Kaponeridis win their singles matches to take home the banner.
Sunday's bronze medal matches were also lopsided affairs with Montreal and Western each winning 6-1. In the women's tie, the Mustangs swept all three doubles matches for the one point and then won five of six singles matches in straight sets.
In the men's tie, the Carabins won the only two doubles matches played against the Warriors. In singles, Montreal's Hugo Maurice and Columban Bounine both won thrillers over Waterloo's Joe Zeng and Ladhani Kamil, respectively. Maurice came back from a set down to take the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Bounine also needed three sets in a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 victory.
