BADGERS END CARLETON WIN STREAK AT 87
93-54, carried on through three OUA East, OUA Provincial and three CIS National Championships. The Ravens defeated 17 Ontario (OUA) and seven (AUS, CWUAA & QSSF) schools during the streak, winning the three CIS crowns against a school from each conference, Guelph-OUA in 2003, St. Francis Xavier-AUS in 2004 and Concordia-QSSF in 2005.
On Saturday afternoon, the Ravens fell behind early as the defending OUA West champion Badgers built up an early double-figure lead, which they carried into the locker room, 34-21. In the second half, the three-time defending CIS champions kept coming closer until the Ravens had the ball in the final seconds and second-year guard Stuart Turnbull, Kingston, Ontario, had a last second three-point shot at the buzzer that went wide, ending the CIS's longest regular- and post-season
winning streak. The Ravens record falls to 9-1 in the OUA East, and pending the outcome of
the Guelph-Ottawa contest, tonight, Carleton will not be in first place, in the OUA East, for the first time since February of 2000, when the Ravens finished third in Coach Dave Smart's first year at the helm of the Ravens.
Osvaldo Jeanty, Ottawa, Ontario, led the Ravens with 20points and six rebounds. Jean Emmanuel Jean Marie added 14 points and Aaron Doornekamp 11 points. The Badgers were led by Brad Rootes with a 21-point performance and Kevin Stienstra with 18 points and 10-rebounds.
The Ravens committed 33 turnovers in the contest, a season high.
Carleton 21 46 = 67 (9-1 OUA East)
