YORK MANHANDLES DEFENDING CHAMPS
York (5-1) used a second-half domination to erase a 10-point halftime deficit and crushed the Marauders (3-3) at home. McMaster led 42-32 heading into the break but the tables turned quickly. The Lions dominated in nearly every category, shooting .517 (31-6) from the field and outrebounding their opponents 47-35. Fourth-year guard Rohan Steen (Welland, Ontario) finished with a game-high 26 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field for York. In a battle of scoring leaders, veteran forward Daniel Eves (Barrie, Ontario) of York, the second-leading scorer in the conference, finished the game with a double-double, posting 20 points and 10 rebounds. Fifth-year guard Martin Ajayi (Hamilton), who has led the OUA by averaging 22.2 points, finished with a game-high 18 points. The Lions continue their offensive dominance. York has averaged 84.7 points in its first six games, leading the OUA in scoring while ranking fourth in the country. With the win, York remains in a tie with Ottawa for second place in the East.
Windsor 70, Queen's 66 (OT)
Former Gaels head coach and now leader of the Lancers squad, Chris Oliver, made his return to Kingston in impressive fashion. His Windsor team needed overtime but defeated Queen's, 70-66, to extend their OUA West lead to two games over five other universities. The Lancer won despite shooting a dismal .375 (24-64) from the field, but they did outrebound Queen's 39-24. Windsor leads the OUA with a 9.83 rebounding margin. Fourth-year Lancers forward Kevin Kloostra (Chatham, Ontario) led all scorers with 22 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. The OUA top rebounder, third-year forward Greg Surmacz (Peterborough, Ontario), also recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-best 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Rookie forward Mitch Leger (Kingston Ontario) scored 21 points and added seven rebounds to continue his impressive first season.
