LAKEHEAD DROPS GAME TO DEFENDING OUA CHAMPS
The defending OUA champion York Lions pulled out a 2-1 victory over a very tough Lakehead team. The Thunderwolves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Lions on a Jeff Richards goal at 3:29 in the first period but failed to hold onto this lead. The Lions came from behind to even the score early in the second period on a Jerry Connell goal but it was teammate Steve Chabbert who scored the winning goal for York in the fourteenth minute of third period. Goalie Kevin Druce also played a strong game for the Lions, stopping 34 of the 35 shots he faced.
Ottawa 8, RMC 2
Ottawa crushed the RMC Paladins in an 8-2 victory this weekend. The Gee Gees jumped out to an early lead and never looked back scoring eight goals including four in the third period alone. Adam Vaughan and Rob Rideout both played a strong game for Ottawa scoring two goals a piece and adding 2 assists in the victory. Fellow Gee Gees Jonathan Robert, Ben McLeod, Neil Frotten and Chris Boucher scored the other four goals for Ottawa. The Paladins played a strong first period but allowed five unanswered goals in the next two periods as Ottawa handed RMC their first loss of the season.
McGill 5, Queen's 0
McGill dominated the game against Queen's scoring five unanswered goals. Doug Orr led the team; scoring two goals in the second period while teammate Mark Debusschere added one goal and two assists of his own. Lucas Madill and Pierre-Antoine Paquet scored McGill's other two goals while Gregoire Leblanc helped the team to victory with his four assists.
Western 6, Laurier 2
Western continued to dominate their competition this season defeating the Golden Hawks 5-2. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the third period when the Mustangs offense exploded to score 4 unanswered goals. Matt Manias led the team scoring two goals and adding an assist while fellow Mustang, Mike Rice had one goal and two assists in the victory. Chris Di Ubaldo scored the Hawks two goals but it was not enough to defeat a strong offensive Mustang team.
