MITROVIC TO TAKE OVER AS RAMS HOCKEY COACH
"After a conversation with Ed, we mutually agreed to make a change," Dubois said. "We felt that this would be best for the team."
Rams assistant coach Mick Mitrovic will take over as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
"We recognize all the hard work and the great contribution Ed has given to the program and despite that, the team wasn't going in the right direction," said Terry Haggerty Ryerson's Manager of Interuniversity Sport. "With six weeks before our next game, we felt it was the right time to make a move."
Mitrovic joined the Rams as an assistant coach last season. He also works as an investment banker for BMO Nesbitt Burns -- something he will continue to do.
"I'm very excited about this opportunity," Mitrovic said. "It's something I've always strived to do." He will make his head coaching debut Jan. 15, 2004 when the Rams travel to Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont.
Mitrovic said the Rams will embark on a strict training regiment for the next six weeks. "We have a talented team and I want to set them loose offensively. I want to change the entire mindset and we need to put in some hard work to do that."
A certified level III coach, Mitrovic played Jr. A for King City, St. Michael's and Milton. In 1992-93, he played for Canisius College (near Buffalo, N.Y.) and helped the team to the Div. 1 Final Four. Next, he transferred to Ryerson and earned a degree in public administration. He played two seasons for the Rams and led the team is points both years. He then moved to the University of Toronto and earned a second degree in industrial relations. Currently, the 35-year-old is pursuing an executive MBA from Syracuse University.
