The No. 10 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the No. 9 Nipissing Lakers in an exciting overtime contest, 2-1, on Friday night (Feb. 10) at Varsity Arena.

No. 10 Toronto slips past No. 9 Nipissing 2-1 in OT
The No. 10 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the No. 9 Nipissing Lakers in an exciting overtime contest, 2-1, on Friday night (Feb. 10) at Varsity Arena.
The win elevates the Blues to 12-2-7-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) on the season as they remain in third place in the OUA, just five points behind the Lakers (12-3-3-3).
Nipissing was first on the score sheet as they scored halfway into the first with a goal from first-year forward Hunter Mosher; however, the Blues would tie the score before the end of the first 20 minutes with a sneaky power play tip from Lauren Straatman off a feathered shot from veteran Taylor Day.
The second and third period saw a tight battle between the top teams with no goals, forcing the game into overtime.
Then, just 34 seconds into the extra frame and on a power play, Day tipped the puck in off a beautiful pass from captain Kristi Riseley to give the Blues the big win.
Blues goalie Katey Teekasingh posted 27 saves in her sixth win on the season.
The Blue and White are back in action tomorrow (Feb. 11) to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Lances shutout Gaels 3-0
WINDSOR, Ont. (February 10, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (8-4-8-1) were defeated by the Windsor Lancers (10-1-8-2) 3-0 Friday evening in OUA women's hockey action from Windsor. The Lancers move into a tie for 5th in the OUA while the Gaels fall to 7th and sit just two points ahead of Brock who is just outside the playoff picture in 9th.
GAMEFLOW
The Lancers held the momentum throughout entire game, scoring three straight goals to take a 3-0 victory. The first Lancer goal was minutes into the first period. Larissa Borowiec scored, with Shawna Lesperance and Jillian Rops assisting. This gave Windsor a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
In the second, Windsor scored two more goals. Kennedy Snively scored for the Lancers, with Amy Maitre and Natalie Barrette assisting. One minute later, Jillian Rops scored on the powerplay, with Ashley Maitre and Sydney Dobbin picking up the assists. The third period proved to be scoreless, allowing the Lancers to take a 3-0 final.
The Lancers out-shot the Gaels 28-16 and picked up three points which put them back into the playoff picture.

On Friday night, the Laurentian women's hockey team won a 3-2 nail-biter in a shootout against Ryerson, moving them into sixth place in the standings as the regular season dwindles down.
