OUA W-VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: MUSTANGS FIRST TO 10 WINS
WINDSOR, Ont. - The Western Mustangs became the first team in the province to earn 10 wins this season with a 3-0 sweep over the Windsor Lancers on Wednesday at the St. Denis Centre.
Guided by seven aces and an impressive attack percentage in the opening two sets, Western won the three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-20.
Jenna Thomson (St. Marys, Ont.) and Sarah Johnston (Stratford, Ont.) each had two aces, with Thomson adding 36 assists in the win.
Elaine Screaton (Calgary, Alta.) had 12 kills for the Mustangs which are now 10-1 and in first overall in the OUA West Division. York, undefeated at 8-0, is the only team to defeat the Mustangs this season.
Sara Farrell (London, Ont.) continued her strong play with 11 kills, while Andrea Ruste (Edmonton, Alta.) was strong on defence with 13 digs.
Western outplayed the host Lancers with a 6-1 advantage in blocks.
Ashley Nixon (Limehouse, Ont.) led the Lancers with 10 kills, while the team had a poor attack percentage of 14.4 in the game to Western's 30.6.
The Mustangs completed their 2008 portion of the season and will return to OUA action on Jan. 8, hosting Windsor at 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
