OUA'S WOMEN OF INFLUENCE: Guelph's Kylen Van Osch
HAMILTON, Ont. - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) will recognize the top female scholar-athletes from across the province at a luncheon on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ont.
The event honours female student-athletes who have excelled in their chosen sports, fields of study and community involvement. This year's guest speaker will be dual-sport national athlete, Olympic gold medalist and OUA alumnus Heather Moyse.

One of today’s honoured female athlete is Guelph’s Kylen Van Osch. A model student-athlete, Kylen achieved excellence as a member of the women’s volleyball team and as a student in the biomedical sciences program. In 2010-2011, in her graduating season, the dominant middle blocker was named a CIS first team all-Canadian – the first ever in Gryphon women’s volleyball history. She was also the CIS Mary Lyons Player of the Year nominee from the OUA, OUA MVP and a first team OUA all-star.
She led the Gryphons to an OUA silver medal after an amazing season where she was second in OUA kill percentage, OUA top ten in total blocks, blocks per set, total points and top three in points per set averaging 3.80 points per game.Congratulations Kylen!
What is your proudest academic achievement?
My proudest academic achievement was winning the University of Guelph President's Trophy for my success in academics as well as athletics.
What is your proudest athletic achievement?
My proudest athletic achievement was being named a First Team All-Canadian in my final year at Guelph, as this was the first one in Guelph Gryphon women's volleyball history.
What is your most memorable community related moment?
My most memorable community related moments were the summers when I was a coordinator at the Gryphon volleyball camps. It was a great experience to interact with the kids in the community while teaching them to play volleyball.
What woman has most influenced you, and why?
The woman that has most influenced me is my Mom. Throughout my life, her strength and encouragement has motivated me to always strive for success and I owe her for the person that I have become.
What is your future plan?
My future plan is to continue my education and complete a Master's degree and PhD in an area of Biomedical Sciences.
