LANCERS HOST WEST SECTIONALS
The West Sectionals is one of three events in the OUA Curling calendar year, and the first home meet the Lancers have hosted since 2004.
Head coach Mark Masonovich has a good feeling about this year, as the team starts out the season with home-ice advantage and should be able to play aggressively from the beginning.
On the women's side, the Lancers see half of their six-person team return from last season. 2005 women's team MVP and Academic All-Canadian Cayley Rodd (pictured) is back for her third season at the Vice position. Second-year Niccole Williamson is returning and playing Second, while Kaitlyn Delano is back as an Alternate.
Krista Duguay, a new recruit from Hamilton, ON, has been added to the Lancer roster for one season as she completes her Education degree. She will fill the role of Skip as the Lancer women's team captain. Newcomer Shannon White will play Lead, while rookie Jessica Newman will be the second alternate.
The men also have a six-man roster this season, but may add an extra due to the need for injury reserves. Blair Willet will be out of the lineup again this season after a year off from knee surgery. 2005 men's team MVP Brian Daniel is back at Vice, but is currently battling a knee injury and will see limited ice time. Daniel has also just returned from the Provincial Junior Men's final, where he scored a third-place finish.
Scott Moncur has taken the reins as Skip and should be able to lead the team well through the season. He is hot off of the bonspiel circuit where he skipped a team and won the championship at the Detroit International Bonspiel.
Brothers Rob and Mike Laurin also return this season as Alternates.
There are two rookies on the men's team this year. Jeremy Toll is a new recruit from Winnipeg and playing at the Second position. Myles Soulliere, of Tecumseh, ON, will play Alternate.
Competition begins at 8:30 am with the second and third matches being played at 12:30 pm and 4:30 pm. The teams will carry their records on to the Crossovers in Peterborough, Ontario on February 4th, where they face East Division schools. The top four teams after the Crossovers will advance on to the Provincial Championships, hosted by the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, ON on February 25th.
