WESTERN MEN AND WOMEN POST 3-0 RECORDS AT WEST SECTIONALS
In men's play, Codey Maus led the Mustangs to a perfect 3-0 record. The team got off to an outstanding start with an abbreviated 8-1 victory over the Windsor Lancers.
Their second game of the day was their toughest challenge, Munro said, against the Brock Badgers. Led by skip Charlie Kodors, Brock applied the pressure to the Mustangs throughout the contest. The game came down to last rock and skip Maus was up to the task with a beautiful out-turn double takeout to ensure the 6-5 win.
The Mustangs final game of the day was against a spirited Waterloo team, but the workmanlike approach taken by the Western foursome was too much for the Warriors to handle, as the Mustangs held on to win 10-2.
In women's play, Jennifer Scott led the Mustangs to a 3-0 start to the competitive season with her cool leadership and exemplary execution.
The Mustangs started with a strong 8-5 win over Windsor. A score of four points in the second end and a steal of two points in the seventh paved the way to the victory.
Western's second game of the day was a nailbiter with Western edging Brock 6-5. The game was decided when Scott made a tremendous extra-end draw behind cover with her last rock, forcing the Brock skip to attempt a quiet weight takeout. The shot was just a little outside and heavy, and just like that, Western had stolen the victory.
The day's third game was an abbreviated affair against Waterloo. A steal of five points early in the game made all the difference as the Mustangs cruised to the 9-5 win.
