OUA ANNOUNCES 2008 CURLING ALL-STARS
HAMILTON, Ont. - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's curling team won their last four competitions in a row to claim the gold at the OUA Championships earlier today.
Laurier's women's team, skipped by Hollie Nicol (Markham, ON) defeated the Queen's Golden Gaels 8-5 to claim the program's fourth provincial title. The team controlled the gold medal competition from the beginning and ran their opponents out of rocks in the eighth end coming home with the hammer.
Earlier in the day, the women played Western in the tiebreaker and battled out the win taking two in the final end, with the hammer, for the win. The 2-3 game started at noon and Laurier faced Trent. The Excalibur started off the game taking a point in the first end, but found themselves down two without the hammer coming home in the eighth. The Golden Hawks made the hit and stick for the win and earned their berth to the final.
The win coincides with the men's team victory as the Golden Hawks defeated Western to earn their sixth banner in the program's history.
