WESTERN WOMEN FINISH FIRST, MEN SECOND AT OUA CROSSOVERS
Jennifer Scott lead her team of Erin Morrissey, Jackie Masongsong, Fiona Muirhead and Laura Guetta to a perfect 4-0 record against stiff competition provided by Trent, Laurier, Toronto and Queen's.
The Mustang women finish regular season play with a record of 7-0 and are ranked first heading to the championships, which will be contested in Windsor, Ont., over the weekend of Feb. 15-17.
Laurier, Queen's and Trent also advance to play at the provincials.
Scott's excellent shot selection and decision-making skills have been exemplary, according to head coach Rory Munro.
\"She has matured tremendously over the course of the season,\" he said. \"She's just taken it to the next level in terms of performance and leadership capabilities.\"
In just her second season as a skip at the OUA level, Scott's finesse draws, double takeouts and precision hits-and-rolls in the Crossovers this past weekend (Feb. 2-3) were a major factor in Western going undefeated.
\"She has a great support staff and has a tremendous rapport with her teammates,\" Munro said, \"and that has enchanced the team's performance immensely.\"
\"Jennifer was shooting lights-out, making everything that was coming her way.\"
In the final game against Laurier, what Munro described as \"a back-and-forth affair,\" Scott and her teammates put their game into a new gear in the latter ends to win the final game and remain undefeated.
After downing Toronto, Queen's and Trent, the Mustangs men's team came up just short against Laurier in their last game in Peterborough and are ranked No. 2 in the OUA after finishing the regular season with a 6-1 record.
Skip Codey Maus and his team of Scott McDonald, Mark Bresee, Micky Lizmore and Andrew Clayton will face Laurier, Queen's and Waterloo at the OUA Championships.
