VARSITY BLUES ROWING DUO TO REPRESENT CANADA IN ATHENS
Milne, a native of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, is a graduate of U of T's Physiotherapy program, while Aurora, Ontario's Jones is currently taking this Olympic year off from U of T's Medical School. Both Milne and Jones have competed as Varsity Blues with the U of T Rowing Club.
They just returned from a very successful European tour where they earned a silver medal at the Munich World Cup Regatta and took home gold at the Lucerne World Cup Regatta. The Lucerne event was the final international regatta prior to the 2004 Olympics, which means that Milne and Jones will head to Athens as one of the favorites in the Lightweight women's double.
Milne was also a member of the Olympic Team in 2000 in Sydney and finished ninth in Lightweight women's double. She has represented Canada internationally since 1998 and captured a World Championship gold medal in the Lightweight women's single event in 2003.
This will be Jones' first Olympics. In 2003, she earned a fifth place finish in the Lightweight women's double at the World Championship in Milan.
The 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece will run from August 13 to 29, with the rowing events hitting the water on August 21 and 22.
