MUSTANGS-LIONS CLASH ON THE RUSH
The game will be broadcast nationally on the Score Television Network beginning at 2:00 pm ET.
This will be the first meeting of the season for the two schools, who last played in 2003 when the Mustangs topped the Lions 44-18 in London. Western has lost just once to the Lions, a 30-23 defeat in 1980. They are 29-1 all time in regular season play, and 1-0 in the post-season, a 30-25 victory in the 1985 Yates Cup Semi-Final.
The Lions have qualified for the playoffs in four consecutive seasons under Coach Tom Gretes and are looking for their second trip to the semi-finals in three years. York is led by running sensation Andre Durie who rushed for 1,367 yards on 148 carries in 2004. He is York's biggest offensive threat, scoring 16 touchdowns this year. Sophomore pivot Bart Zemanek will quarterback the Lions on Saturday. He threw for 1,172 yards and five majors this season but was intercepted 14 times.
On the defensive side, Ricky Foley will be called upon to pressure Chris Hessel, the University of Western Ontario's star quarter-back who was nation's leading passer with 2,388 yards and 17 touchdown strikes. If Foley cannot pressure Hessel, look for him to hook up with his favorite target Andy Fantuz who is the all-time Canadian university leader in receiving with 3,298 career yards.
As a team, Western averages 528 yards in offence per game. The ground attack is led by Randy McCauley who scored 14 times on 98 carries.
Can the Lions defense cage the Mustangs offense and win their first game against Western in 24 years? Or will it be Western who stops Durie and company in their OUA Quarter-Final?
For these answers, join play-by-play man Sid Seixeiro, analyst Dwayne Forde and reporter Ryan Paton for all of the action beginning Saturday at 2:00 pm ET on the Score Television Network.
