FOOTBALL ALL-STARS ANNOUNCED
The two teams left standing for the OUA title received 27 honours in total. The fourth-ranked McMaster Marauders (8-1 overall) claimed 14 OUA all-stars, while the second-ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (9-0 overall) received 13 honours.
Individually, seven players were named to an OUA all-star for an impressive third time, including record breaking receiver Andy Fantuz from The University of Western Ontario Mustangs. The third-year wideout, who has two more years of eligibility, broke the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) all-time receiving record earlier this season with 3298 yards.
Marauder offensive guard Fabio Filice was honoured for the third time in his five-year career as was Western quarterback Chris Hessel. Also from Western was offensive guard Geoff St. Denis, also taking home his third all-star as well as cornerback Clinton John from York University and the 2003 President's Trophy award winner Jon Sullivan from the University of Waterloo. The only first team offensive all-star from Queen's University was inside receiver Iain Fleming, who also collected his third all-star.
The complete list of 2004 OUA football all-stars are found below.
2004 OUA football major award winners will be announced Wednesday morning at a press conference at the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
Saturday, the 97th Yates Cup championship takes place at University Stadium as the Laurier Golden Hawks host the McMaster Marauders in a rematch of last year's title match. Game time is 1 p.m. and can be seen on The Score Television Network.
