HAMILTON, Ont. – A weekly look at stats and figures from around Ontario University Athletics (OUA).
7 – The number of points fifth year senior Dan Brewer (Cambridge, Ont.) tallied to help the Varsity Blues take three of a possible four points this weekend. Brewer had one goal and four assists against UQTR before adding two more helpers against Concordia.
26 – The number of digs third year Norah Collins (Cedar Valley, Ont.) recorded to help lead the RMC Paladins women’s volleyball team to two victories this weekend. She also led the charge offensively with 22 kills.
9.5 – The number of tackles rookie linebacker Aram Eisho (Hamilton, Ont.) racked up to lead the Marauder defence in the Yates Cup. Eisho was named OUA Football Player of the Week on defence for his performance.
3 – The number of penalty kicks Queen’s goalkeeper Chantel Marson (London, Ont.) turned away in the gold medal game to lead the Gaels to their second consecutive CIS women’s soccer championship. She was named the tournament MVP, a tournament all-star, and the OUA and CIS female athlete of the week.
58 – The number of points Manny Pasquale (Victoria, B.C.) totaled in two games to kick off the men’s basketball season. The Voyageurs’ guard had 29 points in each game and had the game-winning buzzer-beater on Saturday to edge Western 87-86. Pasquale currently leads the league with his 58 points.
11 – The number of saves rookie goalkeeper Cynthia Leblanc (Granby, Que.) posted to backstop the Ottawa Gee-Gees to the bronze medal at the CIS women’s soccer championship.
4 – The number of touchdowns McMaster quarterback Kyle Quinlan (South Woodslee, Ont.) threw for to lead the Marauders to a 41-19 victory over Western to claim the 104th Yates Cup. Quinlan claimed the Dalt White trophy as Yates Cup MVP.
42 – The number of points reigning CIS female athlete of the year Jessica Clemencon (St. Rambert, France) posted on opening weekend of the basketball season. She shot a blistering 68% from the field to lead the Lancers to victories over Laurentian and York.
6 – The number of gold medals Adam Best (Ottawa) swam for at the Stratten Divisional Championships this weekend. The Gee-Gees swimmer won the men’s 50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke along with the 100m freestyle. He also won two team relay medals in the 200m and 400m freestyle.
