HAMILTON, Ont. - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) men's rugby will return to the pitch on Monday, September 7th as the RMC Paladins travel to London, Ont. to do battle with the Western Mustangs to kick off the 2015 season.
The 2014 OUA champion Queen's Gaels will begin their title defence on Wednesday, September 9th when they travel to Guelph, Ont. to take on the Gryphons in a rematch of last season's gold medal game. Queen's defeated Guelph 32-23 and captured their third consecutive Turner Trophy.
With the victory, Queen's is now tied with the University of Toronto Varsity Blues for the most overall men's rugby titles. Both the Varsity Blues and Gaels have won 21 titles dating back to the inaugural championship handed out in 1923-24. These two historic teams will meet in Kingston, Ont. on Saturday, October 24th.
The Brock Badgers will also open the season on the road on Wednesday, September 9th as they are in Hamilton, Ont. to take on the McMaster Marauders. The Marauders will be looking for revenge as Brock defeated McMaster 19-12 in last year's bronze medal game. In other season opener action, the Toronto Varsity Blues will take on the Waterloo Warriors.
The Laurier Golden Hawks and rival Western Mustangs will clash on Friday, September 11th in Waterloo, Ont. with more than just purple pride on the line.
On Saturday, September 19th, the aforementioned Mustangs will welcome the Marauders to Alumni Field for a rematch of last season's quarter-final matchup. McMaster snuck past Western 21-20 to advance to the semifinals and the Mustangs would like nothing better than to defend home turf this time around.
OUA rugby fans will want to circle Saturday, October 3rd on their calendars as the heated Western–Queen's rivalry will be renewed when the Gaels pay a not so friendly visit to the "Forest City" to take on the Mustangs. Queen's defeated Western 33-8 at home on Nixon Field last season.
The Badgers will travel to Waterloo, Ont., on Friday, October 30th for their season finale versus the Golden Hawks. Brock defeated Laurier twice at home last season but the Golden Hawks will look to flip the script when the teams meet at University Stadium.
The OUA regular season concludes with three games on Saturday, October 31st with Western visiting Waterloo, RMC in Toronto, Ont. to take on the Varsity Blues and McMaster on the road facing the Gaels.
A six-team playoff begins with quarter-final action going on Wednesday, November 4th followed by semifinals on Sunday, November 8th. The OUA Championship, presented by Gilbert, will be hosted on Saturday, November 14th.
