Gaels finish OUA season with a 27-10 victory against McMaster

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 31, 2015) – The Gaels (7-1) wrapped up their OUA regular season with a 27-10 win over the McMaster Marauders (5-3) this Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

GAME FLOW
The first half belonged to the Gaels as Lucas Rumball (Toronto) got things started early, getting across the line to put Queen's up 5-0. Will McArthur (Brantford, Ont.) followed his lead and put down another try for the Gaels eight minutes later, stretching their lead. The Gaels kept up their momentum with a sequence of crisp lateral passes to give Jeffrey MacDonald (Toronto) the lane he needed to put down a try of his own against McMaster.The Marauders found their footing and responded with Callum Macley getting them on the board for the first time in the match. Queen's didn't let them have the final say in the half and put down another try, this time by Matt Beukeboom (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) to get them a 20-5 lead at halftime.

McMaster picked it up in the second, slowing the Gaels down as the two teams fought to find the try line. After 20 minutes of strong Marauder pressure, McMaster powered through the Gaels defense to have Mike Waldock score the first try of the second half. The Gaels flipped the switch and were quick on the response as Michael Douros (Toronto) got down a try followed by a successful conversion by Kainoa Lloyd (Mississauga, Ont.). From there, the Gaels would let the clock run out on their final game of regular OUA season play, taking the match 27-10.

Our defence was solid, I know they snuck through a couple times but 20 minutes in the second half of all defence is hard and any team at any level will score. The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's rugby team dropped a 17-15 decision to the RMC Paladins in their 2015 season finale on Saturday (Oct. 31) at Varsity Centre.

Toronto got out to a 7-0 lead thanks to a Hasib Shams try and Tudor Chirila conversion in the first four minutes of the match.

RMC was quick to respond as Williams scored a try, which was successfully converted, and the game was even at 7-7 in the early goings.

The Paladins went ahead with try from Smith and held a 12-7 lead at the half.

U of T brought the game within three with a Chirila penalty goal in the 45th minute and took the lead, 15-12, with a try from John Stewart in the 49th minute.

Warriors conclude season with hard fought loss to Western

The Warrior men's rugby team put up a good battle against the always tough Western Mustangs in their final match of the season.  Although the black and gold came up short losing the contest 29-3 they have a lot of positive signs going into next year.

Paul Schroeder (New Dundee) tallied the lone points for Waterloo with a successful penalty goal.  Schroeder finished the season as the highest point getter on the Warriors roster with 25 points.

After starting the season on a promising note with their win over Toronto, Waterloo lost their next seven matches and will look to the positive points of their games moving into next season.
