BLUES AND MUSTANGS HOLD FIRM AT TOP OF TABLE
The Voyageurs extended their win streak to four games with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Queen's Golden Gaels Saturday. Queen's jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Steve Irish and Alex Makin but the Voyageurs responded with three straight. Mike Asumnaa scored just before the half to get Laurentian on the board, while Steve Rachkowski and Anthony Taglifierro added second-half strikes to complete the comeback. Rachkowski also scored Laurentian's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with RMC the following day. Stuart Ireson replied for the Paladins.
Laurier took seven of nine available points this past week with a 2-1 win over Guelph Wednesday, followed by a 0-0 draw with cross-town rival Waterloo Saturday and a solid 3-0 blanking of McMaster on Sunday, which featured a hat-trick by scoring whiz Damir Hadziavdic. The second-year Kitchener, Ont. native now leads the nation with six goals in eight matches. Yousef El-Abbar had the clean sheet in the Hawks net.
The Trent Excalibur and Nipissing Lakers each earned their second wins of the season. Thaddeus Bolton scored the only goal of the match as Trent got by the Ryerson Rams 1-0 Wednesday. The Lakers received an early strike from Mark Carualho and two more from Matt Prikken to beat RMC 3-1 in Kingston Friday. Karl Russell replied for the Paladins.
Opponents are still having trouble scoring on the No. 7 Brock Badgers, who produced another clean sheet in their 1-0 win over McMaster Saturday. Odean Thompson scored in the first half, giving the stingy badgers all the offence they would need, while Chris Cutaia notched his fifth shutout in seven matches played.
The 2005 OUA champion Ravens finished strong with a 3-1 win over Ryerson Sunday. Andrew Park, Jorge Guitierrez and Adbullahi Abunafeesa all scored for Carleton.
David Nogaro scored a pair of goals for the York Lions as they defeated Guelph
2-1 Sunday. Colin MacMillan had the Gryphons goal.
