MUSTANGS FINISH FIFTH AT CIS TOURNEY

EDMONTON - The Western Mustangs finished with a 2-1 record at the CIS men's national soccer tournament and fifth-place, after defeating the St. Mary's Huskies 5-2 in the Consolation Final on Saturday Nov. 11.

Western's only loss came to the tournament finalist and host Alberta Golden Bears, a 2-1 shootout loss on Nov. 9 in the quarter-final. The loss dropped the Mustangs - the OUA champions - to the consolation bracket.

Marc Daoust scored a pair of goals for Western, while singles were added by Scott Cameron, Mark Wandler (game-winning goal just one minute in the second half) and Glenn Chambers.

Despite dominating the first half, Western only came out of the first 45 minutes tied 2-2.

But Mark Wandler scored the game winner just a minute into the second half and the Mustangs cruised to victory in the chilly winter conditions.

Haidar Al Shaibani earned the victory in net for Western.
