RIDGEBACKS ROWING GETS OFF TO A GOOD START IN LONDON
Participating in their first event, the UOIT novice women's four narrowly missed out on a first place finish in their combined event. The crew of Tamara Partridge, Lindsey Warne, Lindsay Smith, Kirstyn McCasey, and cox'n Irina Levity finished with an average of 71.85%, racing the 4k portion of the race in 19.21 and the 400 metre dash in 1.43.3. The winning crew from the London Rowing Club finished the combined event with an average of 72.66%.
The UOIT women's heavy varsity eight crew showed tremendous improvement from last season as they were two minutes faster in the 4k with a final time of 18.12.8, while racing the 400 metre sprint in a time of 1.34.4. The crew of Lisa Harrington, Ingrid Piat, Lauren Dares, Cheryl Walker, Elysabeth Reavell-Roy, Allison Ng, Melissa McDonald and cox'n Shea Brown won their heat, however placed fifth overall.
The men's heavy varsity eight looked impressive in their season debut, finishing the combined event in third place. The crew had a time of 15.9.9 and finished the 400 metre dash in 1.14.2, improving on the crews result from last year. Racing in the varsity eight this season is Jake Schwass, Jason Klein-Horsman, Justin Vanden Bosch, Robert Nayer, Scott Wilson, Mark Lula, Josh Versteeg and Colin Jeffery and cox'n Catharine Cheng,.
The men's novice eight comprised of John Finnson, Steve Fontana, Derek Henderson, Mark Ironside, Ray Mutiger, Ryall Scott, John Rankin, and cox'n Monica Mak ran into bad luck in the 4k race. The crew was disqualified from the race due to a mid judgment in positioning. The team put in an appeal, but the referee's decision was upheld and the crew was unable to complete the race.

The Ridgebacks will get back in the water and continue to train in preparation for the Head of the Trent which is set to take place on Saturday, October 3.
