RIDGEBACKS ROWING IS SET FOR HEAD OF THE TRENT
Crews race along the scenic Trent Canal and Otonabee River in a 5km head style race. The regatta draws competitors primarily from Ontario, Quebec, and the northern United States, with international competitors also participating.
"Our crews have been training diligently in preparation for the Head of the Trent," said UOIT head coach Rob Millikin. "The crew is excited for the regatta after coming off positive results at the Western Invitational."
UOIT will have ten crews racing throughout the course of the day, ranging from the varsity eights to singles. At the Western Invitational, the first regatta of the year, UOIT crews looked impressive as they posted improved times from last year and recorded a second and third place finish.
The Head of the Trent is regarded as one of the premier events for fall rowing in the region and competition for entries has grown increasingly more vigorous in recent years. The regatta coincides with Trent University’s homecoming celebrations, and consequently provides a unique atmosphere of spectators, festivities and activities. Crews are often cheered along by revellers at the finish line and some of the more narrow portions of the course.
