QUEEN'S ROWERS PLACE WELL IN SNOWY CONDITIONS IN BOSTON
Held over two days, the three mile race attracts crews from as far away as Europe who race in 54 different events; Queen's was represented in six of those events by seven different crews.
Morgan Jarvis of Clearwater Bay, Ont., raced in the championship men's double, coming fifth in a field that included Olympic medalists and world champions.
The heavyweight men raced the collegiate coxed fours. The crew made up of Rami Maassarani of Ottawa, Colin Leger of Guelph Ont., Geoff Culwick of Ottawa, and Grant Armitage of King City, Ont., placed 11th in a field of 37.
Crews racing on Sunday had to endure extremely harsh conditions, racing in near freezing temperatures, as well as a snow storm towards the end of the day. In the lightweight women's single, Sarah Marshall of Kingston, Ont., and Katya Herman of Sudbury, Ont., placed 11th and 13th respectively.
The heavyweight women were the most successful crew of the weekend, coming in seventh in a field of 35. Sean Whitehall of Wainfleet, Ont., Sarah Pidgen of Orillia, Ont., Jackie Day of Kingston, Ont., Allegra Courtright of Calgary, Bryn Savage of Merrickville, Ont., Christie Campbell of Toronto, Norah MacMillan of Toronto, Maddie O'Shaugnessy-Hunter of Brockville, Ont., and Karen Donaldson of Manotick, Ont., came within 3.98 percent of the winning time, a mere 28 seconds behind the winning crew from Grand Valley State.
The lightweight men's eight made up of de Merlis, of Toronto, Ryan Meyers, of Kingston, Ont., Rob Ballard of Vancouver, Jaime Christian of London, Ont., Alex Condello of McLean, Va., Colin Sutherland of Victoria, Graham Puppo of Ridgville, Ont., Chris Purdon of Vancouver, and Taylor Overing of Rothesay, N.B. came 13th in their event.
The lightweight women's eight ended their race as the snow started to fall. The crew made up of Ashley Niblet from Toronto, Charly Thivierge of Montreal, Caylen Heckel of Fort Erie, N.Y., Emily Richardson of London, Ont., Sean Peterson of Guelph, Ont., Liz Carter, of Severn River, Ont., Jen Johnston, of Saint John, N.B., Amelia Wilkinson of Ottawa, and Florence Hogg of Calgary, placed seventh.
The heavyweight men were the last to race for Queen's in the championship men's coxed four, one of the most competitive events of the regatta. The boat made up of Scott Brandon of Uxbridge, Ont., Greg McNally of Carlisle, Ont., Robert Thom of Calgary, and Andrew Joyce of Peterborough, Ont., came ninth in a field of 20, finishing a second behind Harvard.
