(HALIFAX, NS) — The Ravens rebounded in their second game of the 4th Annual Thunder Selects Tournament on Tuesday as Carleton defeated Lakehead 50-33 in a matinee affair at the Homburg Centre. The all-OUA matchup proved to be a struggle for both sides as the teams found limited success on the offensive end of the floor.
Carleton forwards Lindsay Shotbolt (Markham, ON) and Heather Lindsay (Ottawa, ON) each contributed 10 points in the victory.
Shotbolt went 3-4 in the opening quarter to help the Ravens build a 13-6 lead after one. Lakehead went 2-10 from the field in the opening ten minutes as the Ravens outworked the Thunderwolves for the lead.
The Ravens added 14 points in the second quarter and the Lakers remained stymied offensively as their starters only contributed two baskets in the period. Carleton outrebounded Lakehead 16-4 in the quarter, but could not find their rhythm in an uneventful lead up to the half.
Little changed in the second half as neither team could put together a successive run of scoring in a game of few highlights. With Carleton leading 38-22 after three quarters, Heather Lindsay added 6 points and 4 rebounds in the fourth to put away the game.
Carleton freshman Cynthia Dupont-Letourneau was effective in limited minutes as she went 3-7 for 6 points as well as grabbing a team-high of 8 rebounds in 16 minutes of play.
The Thunderwolves went 12-148 (25.0%) from the floor compared to a 20-56 (35.7%) shooting performance from Carleton. Neither side was effective from beyond the arc as Lakehead went 3-13 (23.1%), while the Ravens only went 2-11 (18.2%) from 3-point range.
Carleton, who now sit at 1-1 in the Thunder Selects Tournament, will face another east coast opponent in the Dalhousie Tigers tomorrow morning in the consolation final.
